It could be that simple, so they use other people's words to describe it. One of the reasons they call it a pain scale is because it's a SCALE, not (initially) adjectives to chose from. It's intuitive. Maybe multiple choice is the way to begin and narrow it down from there. Then ask them if it's numbness, or burning, or aching, etc. This also helps when the doctor's concept of where an ankle (or heel) begins and ends is different from the patient's.<BR/><BR/>I'm a patient, and I've found this to work quite well.<BR/><BR/>I've learned the hard way that I should not repeat the existing diagnoses from previous doctors, when it's not clear what is wrong.
